Judge Blocks Controversial Part|of Arizona Immigration Law

(CN) - Parts of Arizona's new immigration law were blocked by a judge Wednesday, the day before the controversial law was to take effect.

Although the law will still take effect Thursday, its most controversial element - which required officers to check a person's immigration status - will not.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton also blocked the part of the law requiring immigrants to carry papers with them, and the part that made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public.

Opponents of the law worry it will lead to racial profiling.
