Joe Jackson to Inherit ‘None’ of Michael’s Estate

(CN) - A judge in Los Angeles shut the door on a bid by Michael Jackson's father to inherit his son's assets, but left it ajar for a family allowance. "Joe Jackson takes none of this estate," Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff said. "This is a decision his son made."

The late singer left his considerable estate to his mother, his children and children's charities.

But Judge Beckloff allowed Joe to pursue a family allowance from the estate, The Associated Press reported, because Joe said his son had been supporting him.

Joe, who has diabetes and suffered a stroke in 1998, wants the estate to help him cover more than $15,000 in monthly expenses, according to court documents.

Those expenses include $1,200 for rent; $2,500 to eat out; $1,000 for entertainment, gifts and vacation; $2,000 on flights; and $3,000 on hotels, the AP reported.

Beckloff also blocked Joe from challenging the appointment of two of Michael's longtime friends, attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, as executors of the singer's will.

Earlier in Tuesday's hearing, Michael's mother, Katherine Jackson, withdrew her objections to the executor appointments.

Beckloff scheduled a hearing for Dec. 10 on Joe's request for a family allowance.

Joe had a strained relationship with Michael, who once said he got physically sick at the sight of his father.
