Jobs For Military Spouses

WASHINGTON (CN) - Military spouses or surviving spouses are to have priority for federal civil service jobs, according to an Executive Order released by the White House.

The order authorizes the heads of federal agencies to appoint qualified spouses to otherwise competitive civil service positions. Qualified spouses include those who move with an active service member to a new permanent post, those married to totally disabled retired service persons, and those who have not remarried after their spouse was killed in active duty.

President Bush claims this action is needed to help recruit and retain skilled and experienced members of the armed forces, and to honor the service of those injured, disabled, or killed in the line of duty.
