Job offer withdrawn after disclosing blindness

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A federal court in Alabama denied summary judgment to a nursing and rehabilitation center on the intentional discrimination claims of a legally blind physical therapist. The center rescinded a job offer to the physical therapist “one day after he disclosed his disability and the accommodations he needed.” He has worked as a physical therapist at rehabilitation and senior living facilities since 2009 and earned his doctorate in physical therapy in 2008, but needs the assistance of screen reading software. He has sufficiently presented a “convincing mosaic of circumstantial evidence that would allow a jury to infer intentional discrimination.”
