MANHATTAN (CN) - A man trying to get hired as CFO of an international company has been charged with forging a letter on SEC letterhead, claiming to be from an SEC attorney, recommending him for the $300,000 job.
Jorge Enrique Yepes, 41, of Homestead, Fla., claimed to be vice president of finance for a Fortune 500 company with $6.3 in annual sales, prosecutors say. In fact, that company fired him in June 2006 for "inappropriate conduct," but Yepes hid that from the unidentified Hiring Company, according to the federal complaint.
Yepes also is charged with sending a bogus email to an executive search firm, in which the bogus "SEC attorney" thanked him for cooperating with the commission.
Yepes is charged with three counts of wire fraud and one count of forgery. His first court appearance was scheduled for this morning in Miami.
