Jersey Man Pleads Guilty to Spying for Israel

NEW YORK (CN) A New Jersey man pled guilty last week to spying on the U.S. Military for the government of Israel in the 1980s.

Ben-Ami Kadish pled guilty to taking classified documents home from his work at the U.S. Army's Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center at the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ and photographing them with the help of an Israeli agent.

Kadish was employed as an mechanical engineer at the Arsenal from 1963 to 1990. The removal and photographing of classified information occurred between 1980 and 1985.

Five years in prison is the maximum sentence Kadish faces but, according to the plea agreement, the government "does not oppose, and will not object to, a non-incarceratory sentence" for the 85 year-old man.

Kadish, who was born in Connecticut but grew up in what was then the British Mandate of Palestine, says that he was not paid for obtaining the documents.
