MORRISTOWN, N.J. (CN) - Danielle Staub, a star of reality TV's "The Real Housewives of New Jersey," has been accused of defaming her ex-boyfriend by lying about sex tapes she sent him while they were dating.
Stephen Zalewski, who says he had a "minor role" in the reality show and dated Staub for about seven months, claims she "recorded herself engaging in various sexual acts by herself and with [him]," and then later claimed that the footage had been taken "without her knowledge and consent."
In his lawsuit in Morris County Court, Zalewski says Staub sent him the tapes in May 2008, around the start of their "consensual dating relationship."
She allegedly "sent footage of the sexual acts to [his] cellular phone, video messaging, electronic mail and other means." Zalewski says Staub also "asked [him] to record footage of [them] engaging in various sexual acts."
Zalewski claims Staub fully consented to the tapes, though she claimed otherwise to mutual friends, on the show and in media interviews. He says Staub knowingly lied about her role in the tapes after the show first aired in the spring of 2009, shortly after they broke up in December 2008.
He demands actual and punitive damages for defamation, invasion of privacy, harassment and intentional infliction of emotional distress. His attorney is Nace Naumoski of Union, N.J.
Bravo Television Network, which broadcasts the show, is not named as a defendant.
