MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (CN) - An Illinois sheriff who has been jailed since May on drug charges now faces charges of soliciting murder for hire, The Associated Press reported. Gallatin County Sheriff Raymond Martin, 47, was re-arrested on Saturday at the Jackson County Jail.
His wife, Kristina Martin, 36, and son, Cody Martin, 20, also were arrested when they came to visit him. All are being held on $1 million bond.
Authorities did not give details about the new charges and would not comment on whether they are related to the drug charges the sheriff already faces.
Raymond Martin was arrested in May 2009 on charges of selling marijuana, often while on duty.
Gallatin County is 145 miles southeast of St. Louis.
