Jail For Getting A Puppy High

WHEATON, Ill. (CN) - A man who stole a dog and got it high by blowing marijuana smoke in its face until it passed out has been sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Emanuel Lopez, 19, pleaded guilty in May to stealing the $1,500 Pomeranian puppy from a pet store. The dog was returned three days later and has been adopted. Lopez's abuse of the puppy was brought up during sentencing as an aggravating factor in the theft.

Circuit Judge John Kinsella told Lopez that the "bottom rung of humanity" abuses animals for amusement and told him that he would be subjected to frequent drug testing during his 30-month probation after his release.
