Jail Booking Fees Called Unconstitutional

SPOKANE (CN) - It's unconstitutional to charge people $50 for throwing them in jail, three men claim in a federal class-action complaint against Asotin County. The county charges $50 to book people into jail and refuses to return the money even if charges are dropped, but state law authorizes a booking fee of "actual booking costs or $100, whichever is less," the men claim. See complaint.
