UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (CN) - The Free Gospel Christian Academy fired an unmarried woman because she got pregnant, she says in state court. The principal told her, according to the suit, that she would "stain the name of the church if she aborted the pregnancy" and she would "ruin and stain the name of the church" if she had the baby.
She claims she was told "that she had breached defendant's moral code." She says the principal told her that she would recommend her for rehire "once she had received 'spiritual counseling' and had made 'positive forward transitions.'"
The plaintiff, an office assistant, wants to be reinstated, and/or damages for discrimination and violations of civil rights and employment law. She also sued the school's corporate parent, The Free Gospel Church of the Apostles' Doctrine.
She is represented in Prince George's County Court by Michael Kator with Kator Parks & Weiser of Washington, D.C.
