MANHATTAN (CN) - A mammography center fired a young mother for pumping breast milk for her daughter, the New York Civil Liberties says in an EEOC complaint. The NYCLU claims Medical Imaging of Manhattan ordered Yadiris Rivera to stop pumping breast milk the day her daughter turned 1, and fired her when the girl was a year and a day old.
Rivera, a bilingual receptionist, had worked for the mammography center for 6 years, the NYCLU says. New York state law requires employers to accommodate mothers who breast-feed their babies.
