NEW HAVEN, CONN. (CN) - A registered nurse says that after she suffered a stroke or seizure at work, her bosses at a prison hospital "treated the incident as a case of drunkenness or drug abuse," denied her medical treatment, interrogated her for "several hours," and demanded that she resign.
Karen Stitsinger says she suffered a stroke, seizure or transient ischemic attack while working at the hospital at the Osborn Correctional Center. All conditions are potentially life-threatening, she says. She claims her bosses, defendants Patricia Wollenhaupt and Martin Meehan, subjected her to abuse while denying her medical care, and suspended her from work without pay for more than three months.
She claims the defendants' actions are "shocking to the conscience" and violated her constitutional right to due process.
The lead defendant is the University of Connecticut Health Center, Correctional Managed Health Care.
Stitsinger demands punitive damages. She is represented in Federal Court by John Williams.
