Insurer Sued for Costs of Federal Subpoena

MINNEAPOLIS (CN) - Michael Foods wants its insurer to reimburse it for the cost of producing documents in response to a Department of Justice subpoena. The company was subpoenaed in connection with a government investigation of antitrust activities among companies that make processed egg products.

The government closed its investigation on Feb. 19 without filing charges, Michael Foods claims in Federal Court.

But the plaintiff says it spent money defending against the subpoena - costs that fall under its $10 million policy with U.S. Specialty Insurance Co.

It is represented by Steven Zabel of Leonard, Street and Deinard.
