Insurer Sued for $400K in Pellicano Case

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Keith Carradine's ex-wife sued State Farm insurance for $412,240, the amount she says she paid in attorney's fees to defend herself in a lawsuit the actor filed against her and her private investigator, Anthony Pellicano.

Sandra Will Carradine sued State Farm General Insurance Co. for breach of contract, in Superior Court.

She says her ex, the well-known actor, sued her and Pellicano in 2006.

Her Superior Court complaint refers to Carradine throughout as "SWC."

It states: "SWC's ex-husband, Keith Carradine, alleges in the [2006] action that SWC, through her former private investigator, eavesdropped on his telephone calls."

Pellicano, a former "private eye to the stars," was convicted in 2008 of 76 counts, including racketeering, conspiracy and wiretapping, for his "work" for and against Hollywood celebrities. He was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison.

Numerous lawsuits resulted.

In Keith Carradine's 2006 lawsuit, he claims that his ex and Pellicano became "romantically involved" after she hire him, and that Pellicano or his hirelings harassed him with phone calls while the private eye was snooping on him.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of perjury in January 2006 and admitted that she had hired Pellicano to tap Keith's phones, the actor says in his complaint against her and Pellicano.

In her new complaint, Sandra Carradine claims: "Shortly after being served with the action in 2006, SWC tendered it to SFGI for a defense and indemnification. In response, SFGI did absolutely nothing; it did not accept coverage, it did not deny coverage, it did not investigate the claims. Several years later, in May of 2011, SFGI agreed to provide SWC with a defense to the action, and currently continues to do so. However, between the original tender of the action and SFGI's agreement to provide SWC with a defense therein, SWC paid attorneys $412,240.13 to defend herself in the action. SFGI has refused to reimburse SWC for those defense costs, and SWC now sues SFGI on that obligation."

Sandra Carradine wants more than $1 million for breach of contract and breach of faith. She is represented by Brian Boydston with Pick & Boydston.
