LOS ANGELES (CN) - The father of a U.S. Postal Service worker who was shot and killed by Inglewood police last month has filed a wrongful-death claim for damages, making his the third lawsuit filed by relatives of slain 38-year-old Kevin Wicks.
Austin Franklin Wicks II, his wife, Donna, and the mother of Kevin's daughter sued the Inglewood Police Department, Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks and Officer Brian Ragan, seeking damages for Kevin's death.
Their lawsuits, including Donna's filed Monday, allege that police were responding to a disturbance call when they barged into the wrong apartment without identifying themselves and, "for no justified reason," shot Wick three times.
Inglewood police told the Los Angeles Times that Officer Ragan shot Wick after Wick allegedly raised a gun when police entered the apartment.
The shooting sparked outrage after the community learned that Ragan was one of the officers involved with the May 2008 fatal shooting of unarmed 19-year-old Michael Byoune.
Plaintiffs are represented by Dennis Wilson, Gregory Yates and Anthony Luti.
