In the Public Interest

BOISE (CN) - A Boise man has sued the city, claiming it is in the public interest for the city to release videotapes of "scantily clad" hockey players shedding their clothes at practice.

David Frazier claims the city agreed it has tape from security cameras at Idaho Ice World, a public skating rink, that show a "Team Building" exercise in which players sucked down. But Frazier says the city unfairly refuses to give him access to the tapes, pleading "national security-type reasons."

In his pro se claim in Ada County Court, Frazier says that releasing film of an "innocuous skating rink" open to the public poses no risk to public safety.

He says the city is using a law meant to protect places such jails, electric plants and hazardous waste facilities to try to preserve its public image.

Frazier claims there is public interest in details of the incident, including whether the players were under adult supervision.

He compared the situation to an incident in which a security camera outside Boise City Hall allegedly showed the police chief and other city officials carrying stolen public property back to the mayor's office.

Frazier wants to see the film.
