‘In Da Club’

The Second Circuit ruled against hip-hop artist 50 Cent in his dispute against Rick Ross arising for the latter’s use of a sample taken from 50 Cent’s song “In Da Club.” 50 Cent’s claim of violation of the Connecticut common law right of publicity is preempted by the Copyright Act.

NEW YORK — The Second Circuit ruled against hip-hop artist 50 Cent in his dispute against Rick Ross arising for the latter’s use of a sample taken from 50 Cent’s song “In Da Club.” 50 Cent’s claim of violation of the Connecticut common law right of publicity is preempted by the Copyright Act.
