Imperial County Court Gets a New Judge

(CN) - Ruth Bermudez Montenegro, assistant counsel for Imperial County, has been appointed a judge on the Imperial County Superior Court.

Gov. Jerry Brown announced the appointment Montenegro, 44, of El Centro, who has been the assistant county counsel for Imperial County since last year.

Before that she was an assistant superintendent for El Centro Elementary School District and director of human resources for the Imperial Community College District. Montenegro practiced as an attorney with Horton, Knox, Carter and Foote from 1993 to 2000.

She received her law degree from the UCLA School of Law.

She is a registered Democrat and will fill the seat left vacant by the death of Judge Barrett Foerster.
