Immigration Law Called Unconstitutional

TULSA (CN) - Gov. Brad Henry and Tulsa County should be enjoined from spending public money to enforce an unconstitutional immigration law, HB 1408, the "Oklahoma Taxpayer Citizen Protection Act of 2007," taxpayer Michael Thomas claims in Tulsa County Court.

The law, which took effect Nov. 1, 2007, allows state officers to investigate and prosecute alleged immigration violations; requires state-issued identification for a variety of purposes, including work; requires employers to participate in the electronic, federal Status Verification System to check citizenship of workers; demands state-approved ID for scholarship recipients, medical services, and so on. See complaint.
