Immigration Detention

A federal court in California enjoined the City of McFarland and for-profit prison firm Geo Group from accepting federal immigration detainees at two private prisons. Adding or transferring detainees at this time could spread Covid-19 and “serious questions remain” about whether the city sufficiently allowed the public to be heard during public meetings about the issue.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A federal court in California enjoined the city of McFarland and for-profit prison firm Geo Group from accepting federal immigration detainees at two private prisons.
