Immigrant’s Arrest

MANHATTAN – A federal court in New York ruled that a Mexican immigrant may pursue his false arrest and equal-protection claims against police officers who arrested him during a traffic stop. The immigrant was a passenger in the stopped vehicle, and at the time of the arrest, none of the officers had any evidence of the plaintiff’s immigration status, they only knew that he primarily spoke Spanish and “appeared Hispanic.”
