Immigrant With Car Problems Gets A Break

SAN FRANCISCO (CN) - The 9th Circuit gave another chance to a Mexican immigrant whose car overheatedon the freeway in rush-hour traffic en route to his removal hearing. Juan Perez caught a bus and showed up two hours late, but arrived while the immigration judge was still on the bench.

The judge's refusal to reopen his case, "even in the absence of exceptional circumstances, was an abuse of discretion," Judge Reinhardt wrote.
