SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Deadbeat parents can now get the "boot" with a new law that gives the state more enforcement options when trying to collect back child support payments. Deadbeat parents can now have their licenses suspended or a "boot" placed on the tires of their vehicles that forces the parents to take action before they can use their automobile again.
The law also makes severance pay part of parents' income for wage withholding purposes. Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed the bill into law, which goes into effect immediately.
