Illinois gun reform law remains paused

MT. VERNON, Ill. — An appeals court in Illinois upheld a lower court’s injunction against the Protect Illinois Communities Act, which bans assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines, because it might violate citizens’ Second Amendment rights. Legislators did not allow “even a moment of debate” to make sure the law was narrowly tailored to protect public safety as well as constitutional rights.
