Ill. House Votes to Impeach Blagojevich

(CN) - In a 114-1 vote, the Illinois House of Representatives voted Friday to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a month after he was arrested on federal corruption charges. Blagojevich was arrested Dec. 9 on allegations that he tried to sell President-elect Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder.

The impeachment was the first against a sitting governor in Illinois' 191-year history. It means that the House has found cause to remove Blagojevich. The issue now moves to the Senate, where a trial will be held on whether to actually remove Blagojevich from office.

Rep. Milton Patterson, D-Chicago, was the lone "no" vote. Patterson told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that, "It was not enough evidence for me to feel comfortable with."

The Senate trial is set to begin Jan. 26.
