OAKLAND, Calif. (CN) - A California woman used other people's names to claim $1 million in fraudulent tax refunds, including information from someone who told her, "I still have my baby 4 sale," federal prosecutors say in an indictment.
The United States indicted Valorie Shaw on a count of conspiracy to file false claims, on Aug. 14 in Federal Court.
The indictment states that Shaw, of Oakland, conspired with others to use their personal information to file false claims.
"In one example, Shaw received a message from an individual in furtherance of the scheme, stating that 'I still have my baby 4 sale,'" according to the indictment.
Shaw did file false tax claims using the information she received, prosecutors say in the indictment.
