New York’s highest court advanced negligence claims Tuesday by Long Islanders who say the the Long Island Power Authority and National Grid Electric Services failed de-energize the Rockaway Peninsula before or after Hurricane Sandy made landfall in October 2012.

ALBANY, N.Y. - New York’s highest court advanced negligence claims Tuesday by Long Islanders who say the the Long Island Power Authority and National Grid Electric Services failed de-energize the Rockaway Peninsula before or after Hurricane Sandy made landfall in October 2012. The residents say their property was destroyed by fire once the floodwaters came into contact with components of the electrical facilities, causing short circuits.
