Hurricane Katrina Professors

An appeals court in Louisiana ruled that tenured professors of Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College at Baton Rouge, who were wrongly furloughed and not recalled after Hurricane Katrina, were properly awarded damages.  

NEW ORLEANS – An appeals court in Louisiana ruled that tenured professors of Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College at Baton Rouge, who were wrongly furloughed and not recalled after Hurricane Katrina, were properly awarded damages.  

The university board of supervisors did not follow its procedures for furloughs to provide notice to the professors and an opportunity to be heard.
