ST. LOUIS (CN) - A former Shriners Hospital for Children executive pleaded guilty to stealing more than $800,000 meant for the care of sick children. Robert Brodzin, 41, admitted creating three fake companies that invoiced Shriners for services.

Brodzin was the hospital's main financial accountant in St. Louis and used his power to manipulate the hospital's internal accounting controls to hide the scheme. Prosecutors say Brodzin used the money to buy luxury cars such, as a Corvette and Hummers, and to support his two tanning salons.

The scheme ran from October 2000 to May 2008.

Brodzin pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud. He faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines at his Nov. 2 sentencing. He also has to pay back $828,973.
