Houston oil spill

NEW ORLEANS — The Fifth Circuit upheld the dismissal of Houston Ship Channel-associated entities’ lawsuit seeking economic loss damages under the Oil Pollution Act from the petroleum terminal services firm that spilled a mixture of oil and hazardous substances there. The law deals only with oil, and this mixed spill is not “oil” under the act, so the claims fail as a matter of law.
