HOUSTON (CN) - A patient claims Dr. Ihsan Shanti allowed his brother, who was legally barred from practicing in Texas, to treat him at the Shanti Pain and Wellness Clinic, and claims Shanti and his cohorts submitted $68,000 in fraudulent medical bills for his "treatments," many of which he never received.
Luis Hinojosa claims Ihsan Shanti allowed his brother, "Bilal Shanti, a physician who was legally unable to obtain a medical license in the state of Texas and prohibited from practicing medicine in a private setting, to see Mr. Hinojosa on an individual basis on every one of Mr. Hinojosa's office visits to Shanti Pain and Wellness Clinic."
Hinojosa also claims that Shanti and Texas Surgicom LLC paid "illegal and secret kickbacks" to Houston Community Hospital dba Renaissance Hospital for access to a surgical suite at Renaissance, in the name of Surgicom, and billed Hinojosa for "fraudulent, inflated and medically unnecessary charges".
He claims Shanti submitted medical bills for treatment from defendant Voltaire Brion, a chiropractor, for treatment Hinojosa never received.
He claims Shanti submitted medical bills for treatment from defendant John Ann Morgan (sic), a licensed professional counselor, for treatment Hinojosa never received.
Hinojosa demands punitive damages for medical negligence, fraud, and deceptive trade, in Harris County Court.
