House Committee Seeks To Compel Testimony In Firings Of U.S. Attorneys

WASHINGTON (CN) - The House Judiciary Committee today filed a federal lawsuit to try to compel testimony and documents from former White House counsel Harriet Miers and White House chief of staff Joshua Bolten, for the committee's investigation of the firing of nine U.S. attorneys. The Committee said it was forced to file the civil lawsuit because the U.S. Justice Department refused to pursue contempt citations. "We will not allow the administration to steamroll Congress," Committee Chairman John Conyers of Michigan said. Uproar from the apparently politically motivated firings forced the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
