Hospital Worker Accused Of 50,000 ID Thefts

MANHATTAN (CN) - Federal prosecutors say a former worker at New York-Presbyterian Hospital stole identities of nearly 50,000 people and tried to sell the information to commit fraud.

Dwight McPherson is accused of conspiring in the ID theft for two years, while he worked as a patient admissions representative. He allegedly sold 49,841 patient records to his co-conspirators, knowing they would use them to commit crimes. Federal officials seized 221 of the stolen records in Atlanta in February, prosecutors say.

McPherson was arrested and released on $500,000 bond.
