Hospital Pays $200,000 for Patient Dumping

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Beverly Hospital will pay $200,000 to settle allegations of dumping a homeless patient on Skid Row, the Los Angeles city attorney said.

Calling patient dumping "is inhumane and intolerable," City Attorney Mike Feuer said the Beverly Community Hospital Association also will have to adopt specific protocols for discharging homeless patients.

The settlement resolves a civil enforcement action that claimed the hospital in Montebello failed to do a medical screening of a dependent adult with an emergency medical condition, failed to stabilize and transfer the patient and then improperly discharged the homeless patient to Skid Row.
