Hospital merger

STATESVILLE, N.C. — A federal court in North Carolina said no to the Federal Trade Commission’s bid for a preliminary injunction that would keep a medical system from acquiring a general hospital and a psychiatric hospital. The commission will continue determining the acquisition’s legality and impact on competition and tax revenues, but because the psychiatric facility would close absent the purchase, it may proceed pending the FTC’s investigation.
