Honso Accused of Pushing Snake Oil

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (CN) - Honso Pharmaceutical Co. pushes Sho-saiko-to, or SST, an herbal concoction, with false claims that it can cure cancer, hepatitis and without warning that it can cause health problems and interfere with prescription drugs, a class action claims in Marin County Court.

Plaintiffs Honso pushes its drug with false claims that it can cure cancer, hepatitis, cirrhosis, asthma and viruses, reduce blood pressure and so on. And Honso conceals that the dope has ephedrine, which is illegal in California, and other drugs that can be harmful, the class claims.

They demand damages, costs and an injunction.

Here are the defendants: Honso Pharmaceutical Company LTD, a Japanese corporation; Honso USA Inc., an Arizona corporation; Hepcare Inc., a Delaware corporation; Koji Yamamoto; Yasuaki Imura; Gyo Kinoshita; and Jipu Wen.

The plaintiffs are represented by Thomas Clarke Jr. with Ropers, Majeski & Kohn of San Francisco.
