FORT WORTH (CN) - A grand jury accused the former operations chief of a church-affiliated Fort Worth homeless shelter of stealing $20,000 to $100,000 in a fake invoice scheme, the Tarrant County district attorney said.
A Tarrant County grand jury accused Dwayne Kenloch, 49, of Crowley, of securing execution of documents by deception, and theft of more than $20,000, the Tarrant County district attorney said in a statement.
Kenloch is accused of ripping off the Presbyterian Night Shelter by creating false invoices from a nonexistent food supplier and presenting them to shelter officials, who issued checks.
"Because Kenloch is a habitual offender - he was previously convicted in New York of rape in 1984 and robbery in 1983 - he faces from 25 years to life in prison if convicted of either count," the District Attorney's Office said.
Kenloch is free on $25,000 bond.
He is represented by Wes Ball of Arlington.
The shelter, founded in 1984, says it is the largest provider of services to the homeless in Fort Worth, and the only free, emergency shelter in the area without length-of-stay restrictions. It supplies meals, beds and basic care for more than 700 people a night.
