Homebuilder Sues Laurence Maroney

CLAYTON, Mo. (CN) - New England Patriots running back Laurence Maroney breached a real estate agreement, a builder claims in St. Louis County Court.

Maroney, a St. Louis native, agreed to buy a $185,000 lot in a subdivision being built by Mayer Homes, the builder says.

Mayer claims Maroney never showed up at the Nov. 2, 2009 closing and failed to close on the property. Maroney put down $5,000 in earnest money with Arch City Title Co.

Mayer wants damages and the earnest money. It is represented by Jeff Wagener with Lathrop & Gage.

Maroney, 25, a former first-round draft pick, rushed for 757 yards and 9 touchdowns last season for the Patriots.
