‘Highly Imperiled’

WASHINGTON - Citing nine species experiencing steep population declines, the Center for Biological Diversity filed a federal complaint to compel findings by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as to whether the species should be listed as threatened or endangered.

The species are the alligator snapping turtle, the wood turtle, the California spotted owl, a weasel-like mammal called the Northern Rockies fisher, the foothill yellow-legged frog, fish called Barrens topminnow and Virgin River spinedace, a snail called beaverpond marstonia, and a freshwater mussel called Canoe Creek pigtoe.
