High School Tragedy

SAN ANSELMO, Calif. – A federal judge partially dismissed a mother’s claims that a school district’s negligence caused her son to hang himself because it refused to accommodate his learning disability.

The mother claims the Marin County, California, school district refused to give her son extra time and a quiet place to take various high-stakes exams. There are no facts that the district should have known that the student’s suicide was “likely or forseeable,” but a wrongful death claim may proceed.
