Hepatitis C Trial Date Set

LAS VEGAS (CN) – The doctor at the center of Nevada’s hepatitis C outbreak and his two anesthetists will face trial on Oct. 28, 2013 for the death of a patient.
Clark County Judge Stefany Miley set the trial date in the case of the patient who died in April.
Dr. Dipak Desai, 62, and the two nurses, Keith Mathahs and Ronald Lakeman, face second-degree murder charges.
Rodolfo Meano, 77, died of complications from hepatitis C that prosecutors say he contracted through unsafe injection practices during a colonoscopy in 2007.
He was one of seven patients that state health officials linked to Desai’s clinic, the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.
The three men are free on bail.
They also face an Oct. 22 trial on several criminal charges, ranging from racketeering and patient neglect stemming from the 2007 outbreak. Defense attorneys are trying to consolidate the cases.
