Heartbreaking Accident at Phillies Ballpark

PHILADELPHIA (CN) - A food stocker at The Phillies' ballpark says he was injured when another food stocker fell with his cart 50 feet down an elevator shaft. As he lay trapped by the collapsed roof he saw blood dripping from the ceiling, Brandon Greene says. He did not know yet that the blood was from his brother, Christopher, who died in the fall.

The grisly accident happened July 28, 2007 at Citizens Bank Ballpark, according to the complaint in the Court of Common Pleas.

Brandon Greene says his brother was driving a utility cart which "struck a service elevator hoistway door on the third level of the Citizens Bank Ballpark."

"The impact of the cart created an opening at the bottom of the hoistway door, causing the cart and Christopher Greene to plunge down the elevator shaft, landing on the roof of an elevator car in the shaft approximately 50 feet below. At the time of the impact, plaintiff Brandon Greene was riding in the elevator car on which the cart, driven by his brother, landed. The force of the cart violently impacted the elevator car when it struck the roof, causing the roof of the car to crumble and collapse and a light fixture to fall from the roof, striking Brandon Greene on the head and arm and knocking him to the ground. While trapped inside the elevator waiting to be rescued, Brandon Greene saw blood dripping from the ceiling, which he learned, as he was being freed from the elevator, was that of his brother Christopher."

Brandon Greene suffered numerous physical injuries, and emotional injuries and post traumatic stress. He is represented by Matthew Casey with Ross, Feller & Casey.
