Health Research Conflicts|Of Interest Reviewed

WASHINGTON (CN) - The Department of Health and Human Services and its Public Health Service plan to strengthen applicant accountability of objectivity in research for which funding is sought, among other rule updates.

Since 1995, when the research regulations were issued, biomedical and behavioral research and interactions among government, research institutions, and the private sector have become increasingly complex.

The proposed rule is to deal with the complexity, and is meant to expand and add transparency to disclosure of significant financial interests, enhance regulatory compliance and effective oversight and management of financial conflicts of interests, and the National Institute of Health's compliance oversight.
