Health Insurer Defrauds Consumers, Says California

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Private health insurer Health Netdefrauds Californiansthrough "a wide range of unlawful, unfair and fraudulent acts and practices," says the State of Californiain Superior Court.Health Net's "coverage" is "largely illusory, " says the filing, because of the insurer'srelentless retroactive rescission of policies "upon submission of a substantial claim for benefits. ... California law refers to this practice as 'postclaims underwriting' and flatly prohibits it."
