Health Centers Must Notify of Information Breaches

WASHINGTON (CN) - Those who work with protected health information must notify the Department of Health and Human Services of breaches in security.

This new HHS rule goes into effect Sept. 23, although the department will take comments on the action.

To facilitate security, the HHS also has issued an update to its guidance specifying the technologies and methodologies that render protected health information unusable, unreadable, or indecipherable to unauthorized individuals.
