Headstones For Veterans’ Spouses

WASHINGTON (CN) - The government may provide a veteran's remarried surviving spouse a memorial headstone or marker for placement in a national or state Veterans cemetery, if his or her remains are unavailable for interment.

Previously, a memorial headstone or marker could be provided for a veteran's surviving spouse who remarried only if that remarriage was ended by death or divorce.
