Hay Baler Took Both Arms, Worker Says

PORTLAND, ORE. (CN) - A farmworker lost both his arms to a Double Press Mfg. P-33 hay press because the machine has no functional guard, alarm, shutoff valve or emergency stop system, the worker and his wife claim in Multnomah County Court.

Mateo Maldonado says he was straightening a misaligned bale of hay when the Press-33's hydraulic valve sheared off both his arms. He and his wife demand $80 million for product liability, negligence and loss of consortium. They are represented by Daniel Dziuba with Tichenor & Dziuba.
