PORTLAND, Ore. (CN) - A Portland art gallery refuses to return seven Edgar Degas prints a collector consigned it for appraisal and sale, the collector claims in court.
Nicholas H. Jepson sued Jack P. Mongeon dba Galerie Mongeon dba Mongeon and Associates, in Multnomah County Court.
Jepson claims he contracted with Mongeon in July 2011 to appraise the seven "loose prints" and offer them for sale, for two years.
"The Appraisal and Consignment Agreement provided that the minimum retail value of the prints is $160,000," Jepson says in the complaint. He says he paid Mongeon $6,000 for the appraisal.
On May 30, 2013, Jepson says, he asked for the prints back, but Mongeon refused to fork them over.
Jepson demands $166,000 in damages, or return of the prints and damages for unjust enrichment, unlawful trade, conversion, breach of contract, breach of trust, and fraud.
He is represented by Warner Allen.
The 10-page lawsuit offers no description of the prints.
