Guard Alleges Suspicious Doings at H.S.

TULSA, Okla. (CN) - A security guard claims a Tulsa public school district retaliated against her for reporting that a security camera could film the cheerleading squad undressing, and that the video was uploaded to the high school server "and was accessible to administrators from their homes."

Deborah Ashby sued the Independent School District Number 9 of Tulsa County, in Tulsa County Court.

Ashby claims the school district refused to promote her from part-time to full-time, in retaliation for her report about the video cam.

"Within the first two months of working for defendant, plaintiff noticed that a security camera was placed in the area where the cheerleading squad was undressing and preparing for practice," the complaint states. "This video was uploaded to the Union High School server and was accessible to administrators from their homes."

Ashby says she reported the camera to her supervisor, and to her supervisor's supervisor, after which she "began to experience adverse treatment."

She says she "believes that the disparate treatment she suffered through her supervisor's constant criticism and harassment as well as the denial of a full-time position was discriminatory based on her sex and in retaliation for her reporting the camera in the girl's locker room to the proper authorities."

She seeks back pay, front pay, court costs and damages for gender discrimination, retaliation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

She is represented by Daniel Smolen with Smolen, Smoley & Roytman.
